E1 equipment performance optimisation and timeslot grooming - The E1 Grooming Multiplexer has been designed to provide cost-effective utilisation of 2.048 Mbps point-to-point dedicated digital circuits (E1) provided by telephone companies. B-MON Bay level auto-calibrator and VSWR monitor for 900 MHz and 1800 MHz systems – B-MON is designed to monitor the complete cellular feeder and antenna system in order to maximise income through sustained traffic density. It is installed in the Tx and Rx RF cabling between the BTS and the antenna. B-MON continuously measures transmission power and return loss while providing calibration signals to the BTS.
B-MON is extensively used by GSM service providers throughout Southern Africa.

FUEL CELLS PROVIDE RELIABLE BACKUP POWER
AT TELECOM SITES
With the rapid expansion of wireless communication systems worldwide, and the increasing socioeconomic benefits of mobile phone technology, the need for dependable and economical backup power is critical. Electric grid loss, whether from severe weather, natural disasters, or limited grid capacity, is an on-going challenge for telecom network operators.
Telecom carriers are increasingly choosing fuel cell systems for backup power over diesel generators because they are reliable, low maintenance, quiet, environmentally friendly, and less likely to be involved with theft.
IdaTech, a fuel cell manufacturer in the United States, recently launched its next generation ElectraGen ME backup power fuel cell system. This latest advanced fuel cell technology offers significant advantages over previous generations including lower cost, higher reliability, longer lifetime, and a smaller footprint.
 
RELIABLE BACKUP ENERGY
In the field of telecommunications, batteries are used to provide reliable back-up energy for the voice and data transmission equipment, cellular and landline phone systems and relay stations, transmission systems, signal repeaters, transmissions via cable, etc. The modern telecom power supply systems normally require 48V or 60V back-up power source, in most cases implemented with 12V serially connected monoblocks having the required capacity.
When a higher capacity is needed, battery strings connected in parallel should be used. The parallel string solution is often recommended by the equipment manufacturers, due to its advantages. The most frequently used Monbat VRLA batteries for telecom applications are the 12 volt front access range MVR batteries.
